WordPress

Advantages

  • Anyone Can Use It – One of the great things about WordPress is that you don’t have to hold a degree in computer science to be able to use it. If you know your way around a computer then using WordPress is going to be easy.
  • Light Script – This is an advantage as even if your website is getting hundreds of hits you won’t experience any bad performance issues.
  • Diversity – WordPress can be used for any type of website. Just because it started of as a blogging platform doesn’t mean it is only good for that. Many businesses and ecommerce sites use WordPress.
  • Lots Of Plugins – WordPress is well known for the vast array of plugins that are available for it. They are available for everything and anything from contact forms to SEO plugins. WordPress gives option to remove your page title without any trouble but this facility is not available in Joomla.
  • All Kinds of Templates – There are thousands of templates for WordPress both free and paid. Whatever type of design you are looking for the chances are you will be able to find it. Then once you have decided on a template installing it is extremely simple and straightforward to do.

Disadvantages

  • Performance Issues – Very large websites on WordPress are known to experience some performance issues. However, WordPress is getting better all the time so this isn’t too much of an issue.
  • Constant Upgrading – A bit of an inconvenience with the WordPress platform is that the platform itself and all the plugins installed are in constant need of updating. This can take up time that could be put to better use.

Joomla

Advantages

  • Fairly Easy To Use – Like WordPress, Joomla is a fairly easy to use content management system. However, it isn’t as easy to use in the sense that absolute beginners may find it difficult at first. But on the large part, most people won’t have any problems using it.
  • Many Different Purposes – No matter what sort of a website you want to host Joomla will be able to accommodate you. Whether you just want a blog or want to set-up an online clothing store setting it up will be easy with Joomla.
  • Professional Templates – Joomla has a reputation for the high quality professional templates that it has to offer. There may not be as many templates but the standard of them is exceptionally high.

Disadvantages

  • Heavy Script – Opposite of the WordPress Script. It isn’t that big of a problem but means that sometimes your website will glitch and crash when experiencing high volumes of traffic.
  • Not That Many Plugins – Joomla hasn’t been around for as long as WordPress so therefore hasn’t got as many plugins. This is quite a disadvantage because plugins make a lot of things much simpler.

Conclusion

You have now seen the advantages and disadvantages for both WordPress and Joomla and it is time to reach a conclusion. Our final verdict is that WordPress is the better content management system. The clear reasoning behind this is because it easier for people of all computer skill levels to use, there are more plugins and templates and it can be used for all types of website. However, Joomla hasn’t been around for as long so could progress in the future to be even better than WordPress.
