What is Cheap Web Hosting?

This may seem like a dumb question, but when you break down the industry and what it has to offer, deciding exactly what we mean by cheap hosting isn’t such a bad idea. For starters, let’s simply define what we mean by cheap website hosting in UK. To us, any hosting provider that comes with a low price tag is inevitably lumped into the category at hand. However, there are lots of providers out there that can give you hosting for less than a dollar, but they’re hardly worth considering: More often than not, these sites are choked with self-imposed advertisements or feature lists that make us want to tear our eyes out. Obviously, we need another identifier to determine what we mean by “cheap web hosting.” After thinking about it for a while (Okay, so maybe only about thirty seconds) here’s the best definition that we know to give:

Cheap web hosting isn’t just about finding a price Top 10 web hosting companies that providing hosting service at costs less than the market average, but still delivers a competitive list of features and products to host your site with.

In essence, web hosting isn’t just about finding a price tag that’s easy on the wallet, but finding one that also delivers a whole lot of bang for your buck. After all, you don’t want to saddle yourself with a hosting provider that’s cheap, but can’t even meet your site’s needs!

So now we have a definition of the topic at hand, but there are still a few varieties of shared hosting that are worth defining. You see, there are several unique technologies that enable web hosting to be easy on the wallet, which means we need a whole new section to discuss them! You’ll find all this information below, just after our cleverly bolded subsection:

Types of Web Hosting:

  1. The Age Old Shared Hosting Plan: First out of the box, we have the classic shared hosting plan. This is as basic as it gets, and with this technology, you’re almost certainly guaranteed a rate that can meet your budget where it is. Essentially, this works technology works something like this: A hosting provider has thousands upon thousands of servers locked away in a data center. These server are not subdivided into individual parts, but have instead been blocked off for individual resale. It’s a lot like taking an apartment building (which is a single building) and then blocking off—using walls—individual rooms to share to the leasers. With shared web hosting, you’re paying to lease a specific chunk of the provider’s server space. You’re free to do just about whatever you like with this space, but you will obviously have limitations on how much disk space, bandwidth and RAM you can use to host your site. This isn’t a bad thing at all, though! It’s simply the way things work with shared hosting at the back-end. 99% of all cheap web hosting plans will be using a shared network.
  2. Cloud Hosting: This is a newer entry to the market, and it uses a drastically different network set-up and technology set. Thankfully, though, it also allows for web hosting providers to keep the costs down quite a bit. However, it’s a bit more complicated to explain, so here’s our best shot: Essentially, rather than leasing a specific portion on a company’s servers, you are instead given an amount of network space to work with. When you upload your site, it’s added to the provider’s network, which is made up of thousands of small servers, computers, or other such storage devices spread all the way around the world—depending on how big the company’s network actually is. When a user wants to view your site, the provider uses a complex algorithm to deliver the data necessary to their computer, using the network we just talked about. In this way, you can get a whole lot more space for your buck, faster delivery speeds, and even a more secure platform to host your site with. It’s also usually pretty cheap, as you’ll likely only pay for whatever data transfers your site actually uses. In this way, you can save a bundle, but still get a whole lot of performance.
  3. Free Web Hosting: We feel like this really won’t be an option for most of our readers, but at the same time, it is a form of free web hosting. Therefore, we need to discuss it for just a little bit. With these kinds of web hosting providers, the idea is fairly simple: The technology at work is almost identical, if not the exact same, to that shared hosting concept we talked about earlier. The provider gives you a chunk of their server space to work with, and you’re allowed only so much disk space and bandwidth to upload your site. However, unlike a paid form of shared hosting, the provider will recoup their costs in a variety of ways. Typically, this is done through advertisements, which are superimposed onto your site whether you like it or not. You can pay to have them removed, but then we’re really just talking about traditional shared hosting. So if you’re looking for an extremely cheap way to get your site hosted, you’ll likely want to pursue a free hosting option. For everyone else, you’ll want the additions that come with a paid account: Quality technical support, features that are world-class and ready to roll, etc.

Top Reasons to Use Cheap Web Hosting

Up until now, we’ve been giving you the straight juice on what cheap shared hosting actually is. We’ve listed out a few of the methods in which a web hosting provider can keep their costs low, and we’ve even started to show a few terms to look for in your search for cheap web hosting. However, we have yet to explain why you aught to be using cheap unlimited web hosting. We hope to correct that oversight now, though! Below you’ll find our top reasons why cheap web is simply the best decision possible for your website. Starting with:

  1. The Price, Obviously: If you can have something for a little bit cheaper than the market average, why wouldn’t you want to do so? Obviously when talking about the benefits of cheap hosting uk, it’s nearly impossible to not mention the price. If you’re looking to save money when creating a web site, one of the quickest and best ways you can cut corners is through your provider. Save a little money when looking to get your site hosted, and then spend that money on something else, like a professional and custom designed website layout. In this way, you can make your site better by saving on your overheads. And that sounds like a solid business model to us!
  2. You Don’t Have to Sacrifice: Another reason why choosing a cheaper web hosting provider over a more expensive one is a good idea has to do with the features that you can obtain. You see, it’s a common misconception that you need to have an expensive host to get all of the performance and software support that a high-dollar website design requires. In fact, it’s a downright lie! You can get all of the same performance per dollar out of a cheaper web host than you can with a more expensive one. The reason for this is simple: Shared web hosting is the same across the board. When the technology is present, you’re looking at the same overhead costs on the provider’s end, as well as the same basic benefits and service structures. And if you can find two companies with the same hardware at their cores, then you can rest assured that choosing the budget-friendly option will not shaft you in the performance area. It’s simple logic, so before you sign that lease on your super expensive hosting network, and think twice about choosing an option that’s almost exactly the same thing, only with a smaller price tag.
  3. A Little DIY Ethic Can Go a Long Way: Our final point has a lot to do with what you’re willing to do to your site once you have it hosted. You see, a common complaint with best cheapest website hosting is that you can’t get the same quality technical support that you can with a more expensive hosting provider. And though this is true in a lot of cases (though not all) having a little bit of technical experience underneath your belt can really go a long way. Sure, the server might malfunction occasionally, and the hosting provider might be out for lunch. But if you know how to fix problems yourself, and have the drive to do it, all of the money you saved by choosing a cheap web host can instantly be worth. Common problems take only a few minutes and a simple Google search to fix, which means you can feel good about your decision to go cheap rather than going big. Don’t have the technical knowledge to fix really complex problems? No worries! Google makes a lot of these solutions easy to implement, but when you’re faced with a real humdinger of an issue, you can still rest assured that you have whatever technical assistance the hosting provider offers to get you by.

Top Reasons Not to Use Cheap Web Hosting

All of this is well and good (and in most cases the only Top List you’re going to need to read) but there are some instances in which cheap domain hosting simply isn’t the way to go. We don’t want to dissuade you of looking for a budget way to get your media hosted, so instead, treat this list exactly as it is: A situational guide for you to check off. If none of these instances sound like you, then you’re likely 99% safe with a cheap web host. So without further ado, let’s get cracking on some of the top reasons why you should never use a cheap web host to host your content and site!

  1. You’re A Massive Company: If you’re some kind of Fortune 500 Company (who doesn’t already have a website for some odd reason or another) then you’re not going to have much luck with a cheap web host. If you’re a massive institution that will start drawing an immediate load of traffic the minute your site goes up, any cheap server hosting option you’re likely to find will simply not be able to keep up. Shared hosting is intended for smaller sites and businecheapsses that draw only low to moderate traffic. This is typically good for about 90% of all consumers, but if you need something impressively large to handle your traffic and media, you’re not going to be happy with a best cheap web hosting provider. Spend the extra dollars, and get a virtual private server or dedicated server to handle your needs.
  2. You’re A Coding Wizard: Now, we’re going to say this, but we really do mean this in the absolute most extreme of cases: If you’re some kind of condign nut job who uses every possible language under the sun, spends hours and hours fine-tuning your site’s every coded line, and experiments readily with new software and technologies, don’t use a shared or cheap web host. This is because you’re simply not likely to find a hosting provider that can give you the kind of support that you need to get by. You’re going to want a whole lot of room for customization, as well as direct access to the server shell and administration. You won’t find this with a shared hosting network, and if you start to poke around with this stuff on a cheaper network, you may find an angry letter from the provider on your door.
  3. Your Middle Name is Luddite: If you are just about as technically illiterate as it gets, you’re also not going to have much luck with cheap wordpress web hosting. You see, in most cases these hosting providers can keep the costs low by giving you more freedom to install and implement your own changes and software. This means you’re going to need at least a very little amount of tech knowledge to competently get your site hosted. If that’s not you (and you absolutely hate the idea of spending 5 minutes on Google to learn the basics) then spring for a more expensive host. For everyone else, we promise you can do this without too much fuss, and without even a single headache.

Top 10 Places to Find Best Website Hosting:

So there you have it! That’s our full rundown on who should and should not use cheap web hosting, as well as why you should or shouldn’t pursue it. Now, we get to leave all of that drab discussion behind and dive right into the meat and potatoes that you’ve all been waiting for! Yes, here’s our top list of those hosting providers that provide simply the best possible cheap web hosting for your money. So without further ado, let the name dropping begin just beyond the break.

  1. HostGator: If you haven’t heard of HostGator at this point, we’re not entirely sure what rock you’ve been living under—however, they will still provide you with dirt cheap web hosting, whether you’re aware of who they are or not. As a hosting provider, HostGator has been in the business for far longer than we can remember, offering up some Texas-based technical prowess fit to meet the needs of the masses. They come with a whole lot of recommendations, one of the largest names in the business, and enough features to choke a horse. So if you’re looking for a good place to start hunting for cheap reliable web hosting, we can’t help but recommend The Gator.
  2. Web Hosting Hub: This is yet another one of our favorite web hosts. They’ve been kicking it for more than a decade now, offering up some of the best possible services and prices for the vast majority of that time frame. They’ve got a slightly more business-oriented approach to web hosting, but we have a feeling that won’t likely be a problem for the majority of our readers. They also offer quite the impressive tier system for their pricing and services. We’ve been focusing on shared hosting for the majority of this article, as it’s typically the cheapest service that you’ll find just about anywhere, but Web Hosting Hub also offers some rock solid and comparatively cheap business options through virtual private servers and managed dedicated servers. So if you’re looking to step up your game on a shoe-string, here’s a great place to start.
  3. GoDaddy: What would our list be if we didn’t mention perhaps the largest single-management web hosting in the business? If you haven’t heard of GoDaddy, we’re really quite surprised, as they basically run the Super Bowl Advertisements. Either way, they offer extremely cheap prices, one of the largest networks in the entire world, and enough cheesy flair to last a lifetime. Furthermore, you’ll also get quite a lot of features for your money, too, which makes them easily one of the best values in the game today.
  4. Web Hosting Pad: This isn’t our top recommendation for web hosting, but if your main objective is to save as much money as bloody possible, you certainly can’t argue with the Web Hosting Pad. They are the only provider we know of to offer plans that dip under the $2 a month mark, making them easily the greatest value on the Net. They also offer some pretty sturdy features, which makes them stand out in our minds. Still, you might want to consider some of the other options we mentioned above first.

Top Signs Your Web Host’s Customer Service is Terrible

We’ve spent a lot of time over the years helping you find web hosting that provides the best service, the best customer support, and the absolute best performance for your dollar. In fact, we take a lot of pride in what we do: We consider it our sworn duty to ensure you have as much information in hand as possible before heading to the polls—so to speak.

But how do you know you’ve hooked a winner after the fact? How can you be sure you’re not paying for subprime services after you’ve already dotted that line and signed the lease? Do you have sinking suspicions that you aught to bail now during your grace period, or before you’re charged with a whole lot of fees?

If you’re in this boat, don’t panic just yet: We can help. In fact, that’s what we’re talking about today—how to spot terrible customer service once you’re already inside the walls. So if you’ve been eyeing your support options lately with a suspicious gleam, then buckle up and get to comparing! All of our top ways to spot such shoddy service can be found below.

It’s Non-Existent: You know, you’d think this one would be an obvious problem, but to be fair, it’s often quite difficult to spot whether or not your customer service is in fact there. What we mean is this: Do you ever go to the support section of your host’s website, hoping to find somewhere to put in a ticket, locate a number to call, or otherwise procure the services you’re paying for? Do you not see any of this? Are there no directions to any sort of call center? Or worse, do you get in touch with the supposed “institution” only to be put on hold or redirected endlessly through dial tone menus? If so, then you’re on a boat heading for one big iceberg. We’d ditch that ship cold as soon as you can.

It’s Not Helpful: If you’re still in the grace period of your web hosting experience—if you’re on a free trial or still within the 30 Day Money Back Guarantee —go ahead and call up the customer service desk. Make up some sort of problem if you have to, and make sure it’s incredibly deep. For instance, say there’s something wrong with your MySQL servers, and you need to rename them. The idea here is simple: If you haven’t already had a problem that needs fixing, you really need to be sure the customer service with your host can handle future issues. In other words, you need to know if the safety net will hold you up or will leave you flat. We cannot tell you how many times we’ve been with a host who simply had no idea how to work the technology. Not only is this terrible for your website, it can also lead to an endlessly frustrating day. If your support system leaves you wanting, bail on it and quickly.

It’s Not Free: More than enough said here! If the service and customer support is not free, then you’re getting robbed—highway style. You should under no circumstances have to pay their technical support staff to ensure that your website is up and running as promised. This would be like paying the mechanic who rammed your car in the parking lot to fix the damage. It doesn’t make sense, and you are under no obligation to pull out your wallet to get help.

There’s No 24/7 Option: Along the same lines, you should be able to call, chat or otherwise contact your host at any hour of the night and on any day of the year. This is now a standard option with all the major hosts, but if you’re looking for a smaller provider, be sure they offer this. We say this for one reason only: You never know when a problem will occur, or when you’ll first notice it. If you depend on your host’s services to keep the money flowing and to maintain a steady income, then you’re not going to want a broken website on your hands. As such, you certainly need something like a 24/7 call line to fallback on if all else fails. As we mentioned, this is already a common option with nearly all the major providers—you’ll likely only see this in absence with the smaller ones.

There’s Only a Ticket System: Lastly, if the provider only offers a ticket support system, leave them now. We hate ticket-based support, as it’s complicated, cumbersome and hardly ever speedy. If this is the only method the host provides you to contact them with, your money is much better spent elsewhere. And that, dear readers, is a promise. Don’t be Willy Wonka: Avoid the tickets to find gold-plated service and customer support.

This is my first hosting company, I choose it because of his price. I didn't expect much but I'm really surprised! There is a lot of tutorials to help us, this is really great. I contacted the support of WebHostingPad because I have difficulties to configure Evolution (software for email). Twelve minutes (precisely) after, the response was here, and everything works fine. The only thing who could be improve is help and tutorial in French. But for now, I'm really happy on my choice. (Please excuse my English, I'm French)

I have just created an account with eUKhost and I did so because I want to keep a blog. I do know how to write a little bit, but that's about all. I do not know zilch in setting up anything about this stuff, but tech support (email, chat not working when I had to contact support) is superb! Emails I shot (an email a query) got answered not five minutes later, so it was also kind of like chat with a lag, but I am not complaining! Talk about make do with what resources you have. I know feel secure that I've chosen the right hosting company. Excellent support and can’t beat that! But at last will give 3 stars because of some errors in uptime & reliability.

Ipage hosting is easy to use. I host a site for family and friends to see what my family is doing. The templates they have are easy to use and I use them all the time. I really like how much space I can get for the price. I upload a lot of pictures and I haven't found a better option than this hosting service. I would and have recommended them to a friend.

My sites were canceled without any notification. They suspended my sites as they could not take load my site. They talk about unlimited bandwidth but they like to host sites which does not get any visits. Later they asked me to cancel account and also they didn't pay my money back. Their service is so poor. They just take money rather providing service. So don’t use Dreamhost ever in your life. Never recommend it to anyone.

I went with this company because it was the cheapest real host out there at the time. And sure, as long as you don't run into any problems, the service is fine. Traffic is reasonably fast. There were a few times my site was inexplicably down, though. But if I needed to have tech help, forget it! These guys just don't know anything! You're better off getting the guy down the street to help you figure out what's wrong with your apache settings than ask TurnKeyInternet’s support anything. They are slow to respond and really unhelpful.

We have been using Webhosting Pad since July 2014 and have had a couple of ups and downs. However the staff have always resolved our technical issues very quickly and efficiently. The setup is a tiny bit confusing and the dashboard and accounts seems a bit protracted and not user friendly as it has a separate password and access, it would help to be able to access this more easily through the cpanel. The staff answer all my enquiries quickly and resolve all the problems in really good time. Overall I would recommend WHP.

I am very happy with Webhostingpad customer service! I had an issue with my account and thought it would take a few days to resolve it. Christopher responded to my online help request within minutes and my problem was resolved immediately. I have used other Web Hosting companies in the past, but none have had such wonderful service. Thank you!. but have price and server problem :'(

It always seems like when a problem crops up, we want an immediate response for our plea for help. I don't really expect immediate response late in the evening, and so I was VERY happy with the quick resolution! In just over an hour and a half, all was answered, explained and fixed. Lovely! A big thanks to siteground hosting.

I have received speedy support every time I needed something and downtime has been minimal. Make sure you read all the terms before signing up of Godaddy account, there are some limitations. Should the level of service remain this high, I'm definitely renewing my account with them.

The Technical and Customer Support with iPage is second to none. Not only are they extremely quick in replying to your requests or problems, they are polite, and very efficient in solving all that is asked of them. I have been with iPage for the past three years and I have to say their services have only improved from good to excellent, well done to all who are part of this very efficient team. I am able to offer my clients an excellent service knowing that their sites are always online and should anything happen I can rely on it being rectified by iPage within minutes to hours and not days.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to siteground. Let us share with you on 2 main factors for the web hosting provider. Firstly, the helpfulness and attitude of the technical support team, whenever we alerted them on any technical difficulties encountered, they took our requests very seriously and guided us step-by-step in working out the problems, even, a team of 2-3 specialists were involved in helping us to address those technical issues, as they never quit the problems in the middle from one support member. Next, the commercially aspects; the siteground’s plans are bundled with various features, which is same, or if not more than many web hosting providers in the market but still quiet more than other hosting providers. We are really comfortable in hosting our website with siteground. (armadaplasticschemicals.com)

As a beginner I faced few problems that was solved effectively and quickly by technical support team. My website is growing fast and hopefully things will keep going smoothly. I recommend siteground. I am giving 4 stars because of price of siteground web hosting.

While I generally am happy with the services and have no issues with uptime etc. I wish to forewarn potential clients that our account settings may change. I keep losing my SSH option on regular basis, and it costs me time wasted on needless calls. Between, your 1-877 number results in "call cannot be completed as dialed". Support guys respond within minutes, kudos. All I wish for is to not having to contact them. (selvaparaiso.com)

Our website was originally set up for our non-profit organization on a different host by another administrator in his organization's name. We decided to transfer ownership to our organization, and as this was my first time to change registration, host, and administrator, I had a number of questions, all immediately answered by the phone and email support. The support folks also quickly dealt with a minor technical glitch in the transfer. I am very pleased and impressed by the fatcow’s support, especially compared to the slow to non-existent response of the technical support for the plane site I also manage which charges us 10 times what fatcow does.

Hey there, I'm a beginner in digital marketing from Romania, after completion of my basic education I started work with my brother he taught everything in same, now I am working as a blogger in UK and hosted with bluehost. I really glad to recommend all to this best host provider in UK, and USA too. In 2 years I only had few minor problems, which made me a satisfied customer, but what made me a very satisfied customer is the fact that every time i had a request or a problem, I have been assisted in less than 30 min, things that no hosting with ticket system ever did for me before. So, wish you the best in the world in hope to be here for me, just like you have been since now. Best Regards!

I could not get the web site to load any additional subdomains. After speaking to Brent S. at Godaddy Online help, I was forwarded to Ron and Shiyas at the Admin level. They did an excellent job in getting my problem solved. Thank you godaddy (fictionkings.com)

I have 2 domain names registered with Godaddy and 2 hosting accounts (do not ask me why 🙂 ). When I decided to optimize the situation to cancel one account and to host both domains on one account it was Sunday late night. Surprisingly, it took not more than two hours and couple of patient and helpful messages from Christopher, and everything was OK again and run smoothly. Thanks Customer & Technical Support: 5 Reliability & Uptime: 5 Price: 4 User-friendliness: 4.5

Have been with hostgator.com since February 2011 and have found their service to be very satisfactory. Yes, there are the occasional problems (every hosting service suffers a failure once in a while, even those charging many times more than hostgator). But the support response it excellent and you can expect to receive a proper reply to your ticket (not just an automated acknowledgement) very quickly. Considering the low cost and comprehensive features offered by the easy-to-use CPanel interface, it certainly justifies the 5-Stars I have awarded.

eUKhost is an excellent hosting company in UK. I had a problem with my domain name renewal and Jeff responded back to me with the problem in just a few minutes. Now that's customer service! I had outdated credit card information on my account. He manually renewed by domain name and my account was fully functional in just 30 minutes. eUKhost is an excellent hosting company with prompt and friendly customer service with great prices. I would highly recommend them.

I was having trouble connecting to ftp and within 30 mins I raised a support ticket and received a reply and my problem was solved! This would have taken me over 1 day with my old hosting company. This is why i love Godaddy and a big thanks to you hosting-reviews to lead me. Customer & Technical Support: 5 Reliability & Uptime: 5 Price: 5 User-friendliness: 5

After using Hostgator hosting for a few months now, I can honestly say they have exceeded my expectations. Trouble free hosting that is fast and reliable. I have paid much more in the past for webhosting that does not compare with what WHP offers. 5 Star all the way. Thanks. I have several websites and iPage has a feature not found everywhere: addon domains. This was one of the priors. After some time, I experienced a couple of tech problems and then the support people really helped. More than some of those with bigger names. To make a long story short... I like it here!

The responses to issues have not been very helpful or informative of Godaddy. The price is good, but i should have stayed with previous host- this one seems to have a lot of add-ons which my last provided in package- i will not renew when time comes. I have been using hostmonster.com in the past, but I am glad that I made the right decision by choosing eUKhost.co.uk. I don't need to pay extra bucks anymore just because the hosting space is unlimited which I don't even need for the type of personal website I have. Keep it up eUKhost.co.uk
