The process of switching web hosting providers can be accomplished with minimal hassle and downtime provided
certain steps are followed in order. Whilst this is not a complete or detailed guide we hope it is useful
conceptually, if you have any suggestions or feedback please post a comment.
1) Before you start
Ensure that you have a full working copy of your website files, databases, scripts, etc. stored on your
computer. Make a record of any email address settings and passwords from your current provider.
2) Your new Pipe Ten account
Order your chosen Pipe Ten web hosting service using an email address that is on a different domain from
the one you are wishing to host/transfer (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc) to ensure you have constant
communication with us.
Upload your website via FTP or the online file manager in the control panel, create and configure any
databases and scripts that you have from the old host. Setup your email accounts.
Test your website with your instant access url.
eg http://d1199.pt27.pipeten.co.uk
3) The switch
Contact your Domain registrar and have the DNS information for your domain changed to point at the
corresponding Pipe Ten's Name Servers:
ns1.pipeten.co.uk 213.143.3.4
ns2.pipeten.co.uk 213.143.3.5
ns0.pipeten.co.uk 89.248.50.4
In approximately 12-24 hours check your domain name to ensure it is pointing to your new Pipe Ten web
server.
At that point you should cancel service with your previous host provider. Make sure they remove your
domain name from their DNS servers.
4) Check your email settings
Check the email settings in your email software to make sure your settings work with the new service.
Tutorials for Outlook, Mac Mail and Thunderbird are available online. This should be something similar to:
Incoming POP3 Server: mail.pipeten.co.uk
Outgoing SMTP Server: mail.pipeten.co.uk
Login: Your full email address
5) Relax
Enjoy reliable, hassle free, supported hosting service with Pipe Ten and best of luck with your online
venture.
If you do have any problems, please do contact support through one of the available methods.
