Cron jobs are scheduling guide that allows a user to execute a certain script or command in their website at
certain time and date. Its purpose is to handle the website maintenance web stats, building a search database,
running a backup script, connection to the Internet, deleting temporary files or downloading email. A Cron job
will lay dormant until it is required to run at the specified time and date the user has set it to run.
If you want to set up a Cron job in cPanel, follow the instructions below:
1. Log in to cPanel.
2. Scroll down to set up a cron job.
3. Click the Cron Jobs icon on the Advance category.
4. There are two ways to set up a cron job in cPanel, an easy way and a hard way. To choose the easy way,
click the Standard button.
5. The output or results of the cron are sent to an email address every time a cron job runs. Enter the
email address where you want the output of the cron sent to.
6. Enter the command of the script you want to run including the path from root.
7. Enter the command on the Command to run box.
8. Specify the timing of the cron, meaning, when and how often you want the script to run. In Minutes,
select 0 for the exact minute the cron is to run on the hour.
9. In Hour(s), select the exact hour you want the cron job to run.
10. In Day(s), every number corresponds to a day in a month. For example, when you select 1, this means that
it corresponds to the 1st day of the month.
11. In Month(s), select the desired month you want the cron job to run.
12. In Weekday(s), select the day where you want the cron job to run.
13. Click the Save Crontab button.
14. The cron job is now updated and it will run on the desired time and day where you specify it to run.
Click the [Go Back] link.
15. Click the Standard button. On the page shown, you can edit or delete an existing cron job, or you can
setup an additional cron job.
16. To delete an existing cron job, click the Delete button for entry 1.
17. The Cron job has been deleted. Click the [Go Back] link.
18. Click the Advanced (Unix Style) link to take a look at the advanced method of how to create a cron job.
This method of creating cron jobs is not as straight forward as the Standard style and should only be used if
you know exactly what you’re doing.
19. Click the Home Button.
20. This is the end of demo. You can now create as many cron jobs as you please but be mindful that cron
jobs have the potential to take up a lot of server resources
